How do I apply for data?

If you are interested in using BiB data for your research project, the initial step is to complete an Expression of Interest (EoI) form and submit it to borninbradford.bthft.nhs.uk.

How do I know what data is available?

Our Data Dictionary on GitHub lists most available variables. If you can’t find the specific data your need there, please email us at borninbradford@bthft.nhs.uk and we will be able to advise.

How long does it take for my data request to be approved?

Our Executive Committee meet monthly to review data requests, and we aim to inform you of the outcome within one week of the meeting.

How long does it take for me to receive my data after my request has been approved?

Once your data request is approved, we need a Data Sharing Contract (DSC) with your organisation and a Data Sharing Agreement (DSA) for your project . The timeline for this process depends on how quickly you return these signed agreements. Once we receive them, you will be contacted by an analyst to discuss your data requirements. We aim to provide your data within two weeks of receiving the details of the variables you require, though complex dataset may take longer.

Is there a cost for the data?

Yes. As we do not receive dedicated funding to provide data extracts to individual projects and researchers, we charge a fee for accessing the data. The cost is determined by the scope and complexity of the data request. Further information can be found here.

How do I amend my data request?

To amend an approved data request, please submit your original EoI form with tracked changes clearly indicating the modifications. This should only be done if the amendments do not alter the aims or research question of the original submission. For substantial changes, a new EOI form must be submitted. Please note amendments incur a flat fee, and additional data requests not outlined in the original EoI may incur extra charges.
