BiBBS

BiBBS is a birth Cohort study that aims to understand the effects of early-life interventions on children’s health and development. This is done by collecting information about participant’s pregnancy and their children so we can understand how to provide the best start in life.

BiBBS completed recruitment in July 2024 with over 5,600 families recruited. Thank you to all of the families and services that have helped us to reach this amazing number.

We’re now busy analysing the information in BiBBS to find out what works to help families and children have the best possible start in life. For more information on what we have learnt, please visit our publications.

Next Steps

We are working with TNLF to continue to evaluate the impacts of some of the BSB interventions on school readiness from 2025-2028

We are excited to have received a Wellcome Discovery award which will allow us to follow up BiBBS children in middle childhood from 2025-2033 – the BiBBS team are aiming to be in schools from Sept 2025.

Our story

BiBBS is an ‘interventional’ birth cohort study funded from 2015-2025 through Better Start Bradford, one of five sites funded by The National Lottery Community fund’s A Better Start programme.  From 2015-2025 Better Start Bradford have commissioned lots of projects that aim to support childrens’ diet and nutrition, social and emotional development, speech, language, and communication. The aim of BiBBS is to evaluate how these projects improve children’s health and development.  This will help us understand how to give children the best start in life. *please ask Katie to add in the TNLF and BSB logos here*

The BiBBS Cohort Study is run by the wider Born in Bradford (BiB) study. BiB is one of the largest collection of research projects globally, that follows 30,000 Bradfordians. BiB uses its findings to implement changes into the community that improve health and wellbeing.
