Associations of maternal gestational BMI and diabetes with trajectories of fetal to childhood weight change

How a baby grows before birth may affect their health later in childhood. Most studies look at birth weight, but very few have tracked growth from early pregnancy onward. Research has shown that babies of mothers who develop gestational diabetes grow differently before birth, and that maternal smoking affects fetal growth—but these studies have been limited to certain groups. This project will extend these growth patterns into childhood to see how early factors like a mother’s weight and diabetes during pregnancy shape a child’s growth up to age 10.
Can we follow how children grow from before birth to age 10, and does this look different for boys and girls or for children from different ethnicities?
Does a mother’s weight before and during pregnancy, or having diabetes during pregnancy, affect how her child grows from before birth to age 10?
