Influencers of Educational Outcomes and Development of Children with Congenital Heart Disease: A Born in Bradford Study

Children born with heart problems often need medical and surgical treatments early in life. This sometimes results in prolonged hospital admissions and missed life experiences whilst recovering from surgery. When children start school, they may face more difficulties than their peers because of symptoms or frequent absences. In this research study we aim to discover more about children with heart conditions when they go to school, including their performance in key subjects, their development, and levels of exercise. The Born in Bradford population study allows us to get accurate information about these children, and compare them to healthy children of the same age. Our aim is to identify any areas that extra support can be provided for children with heart problems.
