The expression “urban exposome” encompasses all environmental exposures related to the urban environment, such as air pollution, noise, access to green spaces, urban design, light pollution or ambient temperature and other climatic conditions. The interest in systematizing the study of the urban environment responds to the growing health concerns of an increasingly urbanized world population and, therefore, increasingly exposed to these environmental factors.
Urban exposome in early-life has been associated with several health outcomes in childhood, but we don’t know to what extent the urban exposome vary during pregnancy and childhood and what are its determinants.
We aim to extend the work of Robinson et al. (EP, 2018) who described the urban exposome during pregnancy and its socioeconomic and geographic determinants in the 6 HELIX cohorts (BiB, MoBA, EDEN, KANC, INMA, RHEA). We will consider the urban exposome of the ATHLETE children from conception to the last follow-up available (up to 18 yo). We will consider the temporal dimension of the exposome, investigating the variability of the urban exposome across time, and the potential determinants of this variability (exposures, socioeconomic position, cohorts, countries, cities).
The specific objectives are:
• to assess the trajectories of the urban exposome from conception until adolescence in the ATHLETE cohorts
• to estimate the associations between socioeconomic status and geographic variabilities and the urban exposome
