ARC Mental Health Research Initiative

An anonymised curated dataset for MSc student research projects will be developed in this project. The following research questions will be offered to students (a few more may be added to this list):
1. Does bedtime timing and/or sleep duration affect mental wellbeing?
2. Does social media use (e.g., Instagram, TikTok) lead to more real-world social and community participation and/or reduce loneliness?
3. Does academic pressure and stress (at individual or school level) affect children’s mental health and wellbeing?
4. What is the prevalence of vaping and consumption of high caffeine drinks? Does this vary by school?
5. Are there socioeconomic inequalities in feelings of safety at school and in the community?
6. Are police stops in adolescence associated with anxiety, depression and self-harm?

Additionally, the curated dataset will allow similar research questions to be generated and addressed by students, investigating social, environmental, and psychological factors associated with a range of adolescent mental health outcomes (e.g., depression, anxiety, self-harm, eating disorders, psychosis).
