The Healthy Homes study is a new study by Born in Bradford (BiB), a long-established research project based at the Bradford Royal Infirmary

Born in Bradford has received funding from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to carry out research into how housing affects health. We will be looking at factors such as housing quality, temperature, damp and mould, and also whether making improvements to homes, for example, by improving energy efficiency, can make homes healthier.

In the next few years many properties in the social housing sector will undergo work to make them more energy efficient (retrofitting).

We want to find out how retrofitting in social housing impacts energy costs, indoor air quality, and your health and well-being, with a special focus on respiratory issues prevalent in the Bradford area.

We will compare homes which receive retrofitting in 2026 to homes where retrofitting will be made later.
