Early life changes to improve health and opportunities for children

Background: Our ActEarly approach focusses on early life changes to improve the health and opportunities for children living in two contrasting areas with high levels of child poverty; Bradford, West Yorkshire and Tower Hamlets, London.

In each of these areas, we are working with local communities, local authorities and other national organisations to understand how we can help families live healthier and more active lives.

We have found shared priorities for research and together have chosen three key ActEarly themes: Healthy Places, Healthy Learning and Healthy Livelihoods.

Engaging the Community

Working with our communities is a vital part of our work. Our aim is to develop and maintain a strong healthy partnership with the cohort families, community, and professionals that work alongside us by being inclusive, listening to others and by responding accordingly.  We are committed to celebrating the participation of families and giving back in recognition of their time and commitment to our research. We do this in a number of ways through community engagement asset building and co-production approaches.
