Accessing the Age of Wonder Curated Data Set (SP797)

We are asking to use an existing dataset, created by the University of York in partnership with Born in Bradford (BiB) and the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC), to support postgraduate student research projects during the 2025/2026 academic year.
Around six students from health-related courses at the University of Bradford will use this data as part of their studies.
The projects will focus on two important areas affecting young people’s health and wellbeing:

Mental Health, Wellbeing, and Resilience
Students will explore how young people cope with challenges and how this affects their mental health. This includes looking at:
• How a young person’s ability to cope with challenges (resilience) is linked to their mental health and wellbeing
• Whether being more resilient helps protect against anxiety and depression
• How feelings of loneliness or belonging affect mental health and wellbeing
• What role friendships and social connections play in emotional wellbeing

Vaping Among Adolescents
Students will also explore why some young people vape. This includes looking at:
• What influences whether young people start or continue vaping
• Whether vaping differs depending on factors such as background, gender, or family income
• How social and emotional factors (such as peer influence or stress) are linked to vaping
