Adolescent generative AI use and mental health: a cross-sectional analysis

Young people are increasingly using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools like ChatGPT for schoolwork, creative projects, and personal advice or emotional support. We don’t know much about how common this is or how it relates to how young people feel. Using survey data from the Age of Wonder study, we will describe how many young people use AI, what they use it for, and whether different patterns of use are linked to their mental health and wellbeing. This will help schools, families, and policymakers understand how young people are engaging with this new technology and help shape guidance and/or interventions to prevent or reduce potential negative impacts on adolescent mental health and wellbeing.
