A comparative analysis of childhood dietary patterns in deprived urban areas: insights from Tower Hamlets and Bradford

Children’s diets play an important role in shaping their growth, development, and long-term health. This study will look at what children in Tower Hamlets and Bradford eat and drink, and how their diets compare against government-recommended guidelines, and with children across the UK. Both areas are home to ethnically diverse and often deprived communities, where children may face greater challenges in accessing healthy foods.

By analysing detailed diet data collected from both locations, the project will provide valuable evidence about children’s eating habits, including their intake of key nutrients and food groups. The findings will help local authorities and national organisations understand where improvements are needed and how to support healthier diets for children in these communities.
