Simulation is an analytical tool that enables researchers to explore how complex systems behave and to test the effects of different interventions in a virtual environment before implementing them in the real world. In the context of children’s physical activity, simulation can help us understand how various factors interact and how policy changes might influence outcomes. We propose a hybrid simulation approach, combining agent-based modelling and system dynamics to fully capture both individual and higher-level effects.
We are keen to align our work with the JU:MP intervention in Bradford. We see this being a mutually beneficial partnership. The benefit to us would be real-world data to inform and validate our model, enhancing its usefulness and credibility. The benefit to the JU:MP team would be detailed insight into the impact of their intervention programme. The validated hybrid model would then be used to test novel physical activity interventions, specifically to address inequalities in children. This may help to guide future JU:MP intervention decision-making and implementation.
