Using polygenic risk scores to explore the shared genetics between problem gambling and its mental health risk factors: a cross-cohort study

Persistent gambling irrespective of negative personal, social, and financial consequences is referred to as gambling disorder. Research suggests that mental health problems such as depression and schizophrenia are risk factors for gambling disorder development. This study aims to explore whether the genetic risk for a range of different mental health problems predicts gambling disorder, in order to achieve a better understanding of which mental health problems gambling disorder shares genetic underpinnings with, and therefore most closely resembles in its onset.
