Data Request for Teaching Purposes – including use in MSc dissertation projects (Supervisor: Dr Liam Hill)

Learning how to effectively organise and analyse data is an important step in training to be a researcher. This sort of training is generally considered to be more effective when it involves students learning how to work with ‘messy’ real-world datasets, rather than fictitious dummy-datasets created purely for the purposes of teaching. The latter are often over-simplified with respect to their structure and complexity, leaving students unprepared for the challenges of working with large datasets in more authentic, professional settings (e.g. in Health, Education and Social Care). Consequently, this data request seeks access to a subset of the BiB data, which the applicant has previous experience working with as a researcher, for use in their teaching. This would enable its use in Research Methods Training activities they deliver, including masters level dissertation projects they supervise.
