Maternal employment and childcare associated with socio-emotional health in children

The objective of the proposed project is to investigate the longitudinal association of maternal employment with child socio-emotional outcomes, and to determine the role of childcare on this association. Specifically, this study aims to examine how different patterns of maternal employment (e.g. always employed, never employed, transition to employment, transition to unemployment, or fluctuation in employment status) within the first 5 years from birth is associated with development of externalizing and internalizing behaviours, ADHA, and autism in children 5-11 years old adjusting for other home factors, and whether access to childcare in the first year after birth modifies this association.
