Born in Bradford (BiB) is a world-famous research project that works with communities to learn what helps families stay healthy and happy. BiB Champions are young people aged 16–24 who represent the voices of young people in Bradford and help shape the BiB: Age of Wonder project.

 

What will I be doing as a BiB champion?
As a BiB Champion, you’ll represent the voices of young people in Bradford and help shape the Born in Bradford: Age of Wonder project. Working with other Champions, you’ll help design creative ways to engage young people in our research project, from social media campaigns to community engagement. You’ll take part in meetings, events, and projects that make a real difference in your community. Along the way, you’ll develop skills in communication, teamwork, and leadership while building up a portfolio of work for your CV!

Who can apply?
Anyone aged 16–24 who lives in Bradford district. You don’t need experience – just enthusiasm, an open mind, and a desire to help your community.

How much time do I need to give? Can I do this alongside school, college, or university?
It’s flexible. You should be willing to attend regular meetings, workshops, and events. We’ll always give you notice and work around your schedule. Most activities happen outside school or study hours.

What skills or experience do I need for this role?

  • Communication skills. These can be either written (e.g. writing a blog), verbal (public speaking or talking to groups of young people) or audio-visual (e.g. developing social media content).
  • Are enthusiastic about research and community change.
  • Collaborative skills. You can work in teams and enjoy learning new things.

Will I get paid?
It’s a volunteer role, but travel costs are covered, and you’ll get training and certificates for your CV. We’ll also offer £25 vouchers for completion of various activities.

Do I need permission from my parents or school?
If you’re under 18, you’ll need parent/carer consent.

What happens if I don’t want to continue?
No problem! You can stop your role at any time.

What happens after I apply?
