Starting School is a research project that was developed in partnership with Bradford Primary Schools. Researchers from the Universities of Leeds and York looked at the links between the circumstances of a child’s birth, the context in which they grow up, their health and well-being and their educational progress.

In September 2011 the oldest 800 children in BiB started in Reception classes around the city. In September 2012 3,500 BiB children started school and this was the same in each of the next 3 academic years with the final 1,800 starting in September 2015.

From September 2012 until July 2014 BiB researchers tested hand/eye co-ordination and vocabulary and letter recognition with all the children in the reception classes of 88 Bradford Primary schools.
