Born in Bradford Research Proposal for DNA extraction and examination of adiposity and glucose variants in relation to maternal, perinatal and infant outcomes

Funder: Medical Research Council

Investigator: Professor Debbie Lawlor

This study will compare allele frequencies (in mothers and offspring) and strength of primary phenotype associations (using mothers BMI, fasting and postload glucose) between the two key ethnic groups.

We will examine the associations of all of the SNPs in both mothers and offspring with the following outcomes: gestational weight gain, birth weight, maternal fasting and post-load glucose, maternal hypertension and cord blood biomarkers.

The funding will cover extraction of DNA and genotyping of 60-100 glucose/adiposity related SNPs.
