Kate joined BiB as a Qualitative Research Fellow in April 2022. She is working on qualitative longitudinal research for the Age of Wonder research programme, where she will follow the lives of 100 teenagers in Bradford on their journey to adulthood. Kate’s research background is in linguistics and her PhD focuses on heritage (home) languages in the UK, with a particular focus on how children learn their home languages and how they and their parents negotiate their bilingual identities. During her PhD, Kate worked as an associate lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University and as a research assistant at Lancaster University.

Prior to her PhD, Kate worked as a head of house in a secondary school. This role involved supporting children and young people with all aspects of pastoral care, including behaviour, safeguarding, and mental wellbeing. Kate also has experience of teaching English as a foreign language, having spent a year teaching in a French secondary school and sixth form.
