Professor Faisal Mushtaq

Researcher in Cognition and Brain Health


Professor Faisal Mushtaq holds a Chair in Cognitive Science at the University of Leeds. He is Action Chair of EEG101, a European network centred on improving the translational potential of scalp-recorded brain activity data (EEG). He is also Co-Director of #EEGManyLabs, one of the largest coordinated replication initiatives in cognitive neuroscience, involving more than 200 laboratories across over 30 countries.

Faisal is a former Fellow of the Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s national institute for data science and artificial intelligence. He has led and contributed to major international initiatives centred on brain health, including through the Global Brain Consortium, and currently serves on the British Neuroscience Association’s Credibility Advisory Board. His team has received national and international recognition for research spanning cognitive neuroscience, virtual reality, and open science.

Alongside his academic work, Faisal is a co-founder of Code/Place, through which he leads initiatives to develop digital skills in children and young people using evidence-based approaches to support education, employment, and innovation.
