Brief Description of the Role:
This post will take a lead role in developing understanding around how best to engage families and the wider community with the National Lottery Community funded Better Start Bradford programme. They will support the development of the evidence base for what works in delivering engaging, inclusive and accessible early years projects for diverse communities with complex lives.
Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, Better Start Bradford aims to help children in three wards of the city, Bowling and Barkerend, Bradford Moor and Little Horton, to get the best start in life. They provide more than 20 projects for pregnant women and families with children aged 0-3 years. The Better Start Bradford Innovation Hub, part of Born in Bradford leads on the evaluations of all projects to find out the best ways to improve the social and emotional development, communication and language development, and health and nutrition of young children.
The Research Fellow will work within the Better Start Bradford Innovation Hub research team hosted by Born in Bradford (BiB) in collaboration with the University of York and The National Institute of Economic and Social Research They will work under the supervision of Dr Sara Ahern, the BSBIH Programme Manager, and with support from the Better Start Bradford team and academic experts at the University of York.
You will have a PhD in a relevant applied health discipline (e.g. psychology, public health, sociology, anthropology) with experience of conducting studies which combine a range of quantitative and qualitative methodologies. You will also have experience of working with families in communities with ethnic and social diversities. The post is fixed term for 2 years, with possibility of further extension.
