We have an exciting opportunity for three research fellows to join the team at Born in Bradford.
At Born in Bradford we have a vision to promote a healthier, fairer future for children and adults living in deprived areas through a focus on improving environments and reducing health inequalities that can influence health and life chances.
We are looking for three organised, motivated and enthusiastic research fellow who share our exciting vision, and who have expertise in applied research, questionnaire development, quantitative and/or qualitative research methods, to join us in creating a number of ground-breaking research programmes that will shape the lives of future generations.

With the award of major new grants from the NIHR Public Health Research programme, EU Horizon 2020 and MRC, we will be developing and evaluating city wide and community interventions to improve local environments and health with a particular focus on air quality and the built environment.
The postholder will play a major role in delivering a new NIHR Public Health Research funded project evaluating the impact of a city wide intervention to improve air quality in Bradford. The role will involve working closely with the Born in Bradford team to develop, pilot and implement a population survey to assess changes in attitudes, behaviours and health before and after the intervention, and to co-ordinate primary school based citizen science activities to monitor pollution levels.
Working alongside partners in Clinical Commisioning Groups across West Yorkshire the postholder will play a key role in organising applied health research projects that aim to reduce health inequalities. Specific projects include reducing inequalities in accessing perinatal mental health services for women living in deprived communities and from ethnic minority backgrounds and evaluation of community led interventions to reduce health inequalities across the lifespan. The postholder will also support the ground breaking Born in Bradford’s Better Start birth cohort helping to coordinate the collection of follow-up data.
The ActEarly:Holme Wood initiative involves combining datasets that describe the health, education, economy and environment of Holme Wood (an area within Bradford city centre), and then using world class data analysts to build a ‘model’ of Holme Wood. The aim is for the model to allow the community and service providers to better understand the needs and opportunities associated with the Holme Wood, identify priorities that need to be tackled, and then use the data to target evidence based intervention. The post holder will support this programme of work, taking on a coordinating role. The role will involve working with policy makers, practitioners and the community to drive forward changes that can improve the physical health, mental health, educational attainment and social mobility of people within the area.
