Lydia has been working alongside Born in Bradford since 2016 when she started her PhD at the University of Leeds exploring children’s understanding of ambiguous words and phrases. Her specific focus was the factors (such as socio economic status and EAL status) that affect the understanding of homonyms (the glasses you wear vs the glasses you drink from) and idioms (it’s raining cats and dogs!).

Now working as a Senior Research Fellow, Lydia is currently working on a number of projects pertaining to academic attainment, Neurodiversity, and language and literacy development. Lydia is particularly interested in how children’s experiences and skills can impact their academic attainment, and later life success.
