Abida is the Community Engagement Manager for the Childhood Obesity Trailblazer Programme, with a unique focus on Islamic Religious settings. Abida has worked at the front-line in many roles for over 20 years which involved supporting families and communities in Education, Community Development as well as faith settings. Abida has co-ordinated and co-produced new innovative concepts and services to engage local communities in Bradford. She has a wealth of experience in promoting a range of science and evidence-based projects which focused on child development to families and communities. Her most recent role involves seeking ways to increase parental awareness, building, bridging and brokering community capacity to improve rates of participation and engagement at the highest strategic level.

I consider myself as a creative thinker who thrives on challenges and have developed strong engagement and communication skills which have been enhanced by exploring and understanding social and emotional intelligence. I have put these skills to use by driving the community engagement agenda in my previous role at Better Start Bradford.

Having spent 20 years in a variety of community engagement roles has equipped me to develop robust relationships with key organisations as well as develop advanced skills and knowledge on how to engage communities. Another string to me bow is the wealth of knowledge i have gained over the last 15 years from being a trustee and director on many boards.

I have a keen interest in translating and transferring research to communities to ensure we develop an open and inclusive dialogue with the wider community.
